„As soon as we arrived at the gite we just thought what a wonderful view of the mountains in the distance, the rolling green countryside, the nearby vineyard and the truffle field. The terrace had a view that you couldn't fault. It also had a new canopy and garden furniture. There were a variety of different coloured butterflies to admire, lots of different birdsong and one in particular we identified as the golden oriole. The gite was large with three showers of which we used two; they were a pleasure to use. It was well equipped from drinking glasses to large electrical equipment. When it was really hot, the gite was refreshingly cool downstairs. The gite owner Marie Claude was very obliging and friendly, she had time for us. As a welcoming present we were given local wine, nougat, and savoury biscuits. In addition we were invited to a soiree with 8 members of the family. Home grown truffles to savour, a first. Also delicious home made quiches. Thank you very much for the evening. The gite is near local amenities yet are all hidden from view. For example, supermarkets, petrol stations, restaurants, of which we can recommend the 'Berail Bernard', Cepie. The region has castles, abbeys, gorges, caves, thermal baths, rivers, lakes and is just over an hour's drive on the autoroute to sandy Narbonne plage. There are plenty of activities to do and events to visit for all ages. We enjoyed the Anne de Joyeuse Guinguette at Limoux, the summer solstice music festival at Pomas, and recommend visiting the nearby Abbey of St Hilaire where sparkling wine was first produced by the monks. All in all we had a wonderful holiday, one of the best!“
